Why GAP? Our model railroad is the GAP RailRoad because we live in Georgia, and our model railroad covers from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast.

We have 350 ft of track. The layout, if set up in our garage would be 32 ft x9 ft wide. There are 21 holding tracks about the layout, 1 10ft track in the computer room,7 tracks in the furnace room (9 ft), and the others spread throughout the layout. There are 2 Hobo camps, 2 parks, total holding tracks (13) layout size without garage is 22 ft x 9 ft. Our layout is powered by an MTH Z-4000 power supply. We are also operating on DCS (Digital Command System) with DCS Remote Control. We have 2 TIU's (Track Interface Units). One is for the layout, and the other is for adding new engines on the hand held Remote which is on an isolated track. We also have 1 AIU (Accessory Interface Unit) for 29 Switches and other accessories. Each holding track has it's own on off controller. Over head lighting is provided by three florescent down the middle, and 4 adjustable lighting control 120 watt lights with a dimmer for special effects.

Richard Washburn has been involved in model trains and railroads since he was 5 years old. He has worked with HO, S gauge, N scale, O27 Lionel, now MTH O gauge with DCS. He also has been known to chase real vintage trains to collect videos of the real iron horses from coast to coast.

We hope that you will enjoy seeing our growing model railroad layout. We will show you our current model train layout and ongoing construction to improve the model train experience.

We find that our model trains are great for enjoyment of both young and old alike. Our goal is to share as many of these unique vintage steam, diesel, and passenger model trains (GAP Roster)as we can as they become available for our model railroading layout (GAP Layout).

Enjoy our model railroading video clips and previews of model trains on GAP Videos page. We produce video tapes of our site which can be purchased on the GAP Video Tapes page. Also, feel free to contribute to this site with your own tips by sending us a email through our web site by going to our GAP Contacts page. We look forward to adding other model railroad web sites to our GAP Favorites page to allow our fellow model train enthusiasts to find new ideas for their layouts. Shortly we will be adding an area for your suggestion and ideas for our site. Look for this in the future.
